Statement Of Purpose

Inspired  by the very vision of the University of La Salette, the Environment Core Group (ECG) for the Integrity of Creation Program was therefore duly created. With the ECG which incidentally also refers to electro cardio gram, a mechanism meant to examine the functioning of the heart, the ECG of the University of La Salette decided to feel the pulse of the ULS Community to bring to the fore, local environmental concerns that need to be addressed. (we believe that we are lovers of Mother Earth, as Salettinians, we are hopeful that we can do better, that we can discipline ourselves and be more conscious of our every action.) There is the adage which goes, “Charity begins at home.” For us to shout out to the outside world what we want and teach others to do same towards the betterment of the environment, the practices must be apparent in the very university where we learn and where we must first concretely see the practices regularly, habitually performed by the members.

Let us listen sincerely and pay attention to everything that we are going to have in this assembly – let us contribute in the healing of our Mother Earth. )

The University of La Salette definitely considers “reconciliation with nature” as one of our core values which behoves all of us ( which means calling us deeply) to respond to pressing environmental concerns. This necessitates all of us who come to her fold to be mission bound ( ito ngayon ang ating misyon) to contribute in the mitigation efforts to ease the burden of our community here, our country and of the whole world. With these, we shall also contributing our share and be the responsible children of mother earth.

These are the underlying principles behind the birth of the ECG. Towards this end, this Orientation/ Gathering of Feedback Activity is now being conducted. ECG meant to have this gathering magnify before our very eyes pressing environment issues/ concerns/ problems that which need immediate attention. We are to see global environmental problems, which we can address in our own local practices in this university which we hope to bring home to our family and to the outside communities.

The output of this gathering would be the burning awareness of all the members of ULS that must serve as impetus – or the driving force for the culture of Environment care, protection and sustainability which we will all fashion, and we will work on – for our love to mother earth to come alive in our very person, in each of us here, present in this assembly. God is working through us, let us be the Salettinian Healers of Mother Earth.

Water Conservation and Efficiency

One of the components of the program for the Integrity Creation of the University of La Salette is water conservation. Though the school is very rich with natural water coming from the underground through the existing potable water system, water conservation is strictly observed in the campus. Believing that one of the most important environmental resources given to humankind is the gift of water known as source of life.
The University of La Salette integrates programs in their curriculum to provide continuous observance of the conservation and efficiency of energy particularly on water. To promote a safety and sustainable water resource in the university is the long term goal of the program implemented.
The Physical Plant Department designates a maintenance personnel from his department to regularly monitor the water system in the university to ensure the safety of the water resources to be utilized by all the stakeholders. The administrators also exercise their functions and responsibilities and extend their financial, moral and all kinds of support to the program.
On the level of students’ involvement, Student Volunteers’ Association take the lead in the implementation of the school environmental projects and initiatives in the level of student. With their energy and passion towards water conservation and management the groups of students in the different organizations have initiated various activities along this program.
On the barangay level, the La Salette Pananagutan Center have organized parents from the marginalized sector as partner for this program to bring out their competence and awareness. They play a vital role for the completion of the mission of the program. Addressing concerns and issues along the importance of water and finding ways to conserve in their respective barangays and observe the proper use of water resources in their own homes and barangays.

Conservation of Energy

The conservation of energy towards efficiency and sustainability is part of University of La Salette- Integrity of Creation Program. Energy conservation is observed on every part of the school’s parameter. But conservation does not focus on specific resource or location but nature itself. It is on nature that we get our source of energy because we can’t live without the presence of our valuable natural resources. We should know and understand that we coexist with it.
The University of La Salette through the Physical Plant Director’s Office continues to conserve energy consumption in the school. Integration of the program on its curriculum makes it beneficial not only for Salettinians but for the society at large.
The physical plant director with the top administrators discuss the school’s policy on energy conservation every start of the semester. Aside from the orientation given to students, signage were put in all the rooms of the university for constant reminders. School’s personnel were also designated to check the every classroom to monitor the observance of the policy. The university electrician also conducts a regular monitoring of wiring and lighting of the school to ensure safety in of the students and teachers of the university.

One of programs integrated for energy conservation is rendering community service through empowerment trainings and seminar on practical and basic energy conservation. The La Salette Pananagutan Center together with the College of Engineering and Architecture shared common goal on helping the community on saving a lot of energy for the future. It may be a simple way of sharing a little for the community but it can contribute and save a lot of lives if we continue our advocacy on energy conservation.
